Meet brothers Bug & Cowboy. These two were born March 9th, 2021.
Their mother was originally surrendered to the rescue already pregnant. These boys were born at the Rescue and have been handled since day both. Both are extremely friendly and just need a little bit of time and encouragement to come out of their shell when they go into a new home.
Even though they are still so young, potential adoptions need to have an enclosure that meets or preferably exceeds our minimum requirements. Please view our Rat Care section for guidelines.
To apply to adopt this pair of boys, please fill out an adoption application form.

These adorable baby sisters are estimated to be born between Feb. 21 and Feb. 23, 2021.
They are young, friendly, healthy and still have so much learning and growing to do.
Of the two, Sora (lighter colour) is a bit more brave and definitely the leader, while Willet (darker) will need some patience and lots of love to have her fully come out of her shell.
If you are interested in adopting these two, please fill out an adoption application form.

Meet sisters Nina, Pinta and the bravest girl, Santa Maria.
These 3 girls were surrendered by a previous owner who did her best to care for them, but found herself overwhelmed due to lack of time. Despite this, all three girls are perfectly healthy, very friendly and curious although still a little bit shy. They love to eat carbs like noodles, bread and rice, and are slowly warming up to other fresh fruits and veggies.
Their foster mom says they are becoming more sociable every single day!
We would like to find a loving home for all three girls together where they will have plenty of space to play and where their new family will continue to spend lots of time with them to help them become even more outgoing.
We estimate they were born around mid-May 2020.

Meet sisters Lyra & Olivia who are estimated to be born in mid-May 2020.
Their previous owner did the best she could to ensure they had a good life, but unfortunately found herself overwhelmed and with a busy work schedule, had little time to care for them. Despite this, they are curious, friendly and although still a little bit shy, are becoming more inquisitive every single day. Both girls are also in perfect health and clearly lived in a clean environment.
The ideal home for Lyra and Olivia would be one with a large habitat where they will have plenty of time to hang out with their humans on the couch, or in a play room so their confidence can continue to grow.

Update: July 21, 2021. Unfortunately Othello’s face abscess has returned. We will again treat with antibiotics and saline flushes.
Update: June 10, 2021. Great news! Turns out, the mass on Othello’s face was an abscess, most likely caused by fighting between Othello and his brother Checkers. As such, Checkers has now been neutered, and Othello, after 1 month of oral antibiotics and thorough saline flushing of his abscess is 100% recovered!
Update: April 17, 2021. Unfortunately Othello appears to have developed a mass on his face. Awaiting results from vet.
Both Checkers and Othello came from a very neglectful situation were all the rats were infested with mites and lived in filth and urine.
After parasite treatment, one unavoidable herbal bath and several weeks of good food, clean bedding and fresh water, both boys are now truly coming out of their shells. Checkers and Othello are sweet, inquisitive boys who seek out human attention, don’t mind being picked up but at the same time, are still quite active and adventurous. They are coming along very nicely as well with their liter training, although there is still room to improve with consistency.
We estimate these boys were born some time in May of 2020.

You will not find a more perfect pair of rats anywhere. Sisters Yara and Sanna are estimated to be born in July of 2020. They are sweet, attentive, brave, loving and so very smart. They know their names and come when call. Of the two, Yara is slightly more food motivated, while Sanna will literally forego a treat for the sake of playing and interacting with her favourite toy in the word: humans.
If anything, the only negative thing about these girls is that Sanna so desperately craves attention that she will obsessively chew at the bars of her cage if she can see you and you aren’t letting her out to play. She does not do this when you are not in the room.
Anyone who wishes to adopt this lovely pair of girls must have a large enclosure, a big play area or room set up for them, and at least 1 hour or more a day to let them run around and hang out with their human family. They would really be wonderful free-range rats especially for family who can rat-proof an entire room for them. A 12″ solid wheel is a must.

Brothers Frey & Loki are estimated to be born Dec. 20, 2020. They are friendly though still a little bit shy. Once they are out of their cage and used to their new environment, both will clamber all over their human as long as we are calm and don’t make any sudden loud noises.
Considering how young they are, their progress has been incredibly quick and likely with just a bit of patience and persistence, they will become extremely friendly and social boys.

These sisters are estimated to be born some time in Sept. 2020.
While Wilhelmina & Karma are still a little bit shy and unsure about being picked up, these girls are lively, curious and oh so sweet.
With just a little bit of patience and lovet, these girls will come out of their shells and we can tell they are going to be total sweet hearts. Karma especially has come out of her shell very quickly.
These girls also use their literbox 100% of the time without any sort of training.

Meet brothers, Ullysses & Ajax. These two are estimated to have been born in July of 2020. Both are extremely curious and friendly and don’t mind at all being held. Since they came from a neglectful home previously, they are still a little bit nervous about being picked up, but it only takes the tiniest bit of coaxing to have them crawl onto your hand or arms themselves.

Meet adopted sisters, Mirabelle & Leonor. These two girls were born Oct. 25 and Oct. 23, 2020 respectively. However, they get along wonderfully as they were raised together.
Mirabelle is a half-wild rat, meaning her father was a wild rat, while her mother was a fully domesticated (and extremely friendly) pet rat who had been abandoned outside.
Both girls are fine with being held and handled, however, due to their past, they would prefer an experienced home. Strong preference will be given to any adopters who already have friendly, older female rats at home. Half-Wild rats tend to remain wary and easily spooked their whole lives. They also tend to bond with 1 or 2 humans and will take a long time to gain trust with any new people. They take great comfort in being part of a larger group of rats. That is why, the ideal home for these 2 girls will be with an existing colony of female rats.
If you think you have the perfect home for these two adorable sisters, please fill out an adoption application form.
Mirabell & Leonor can also be adopted with Spud & Skadi

This pair of sweet, dainty girls are estimated to be about 3 months old and 5 months old respectively. Initially part of a large seizure of rats in Montreal Quebec, they were transferred into the care of the Ottawa Pet Rat Rescue where they would hopefully have a better chance at finding a forever home.
While Violet (dumbo) is brave, friendly and super outgoing, baby Lilac is still unfortunately quite shy and tends to want to hide. She definitely still isn’t the most comfortable being picked up. By keeping the two together, we had hoped that Violet’s ultra-friendly, outgoing nature would show little Lilac that humans aren’t so bad. But unfortunately, progress for Lilac has been slow. She is now slightly better about being handled, but is overall still a very nervous rat.
Because of this, Violet and Lilac must stay together, and they are looking for a home that has some experience socializing timid rats and has the patience to continue working with Lilac and pushing her boundries.
If you are interested in giving these two beautiful girls a chance and a loving home, please fill out an adoption application form.

Meet this perfect trio of tightly bonded girls. From front to back, they are Poppy (born Oct. 25, 2020), Robin and Vera.
Vera was found outside, skinny and covered in bite wounds. Thankfully, a kind person caught her and brought her to the Rescue. Unfortunately, while Vera was outside, she was also impregnated by a wild rat. Poppy is her daughter born at the Rescue exactly 20 days after her mother was rescued. We estimate Vera to be born around May or June of 2020. She is extremely adventurous, outgoing and is definitely the leader of this little group.
Robin was surrendered at the SPCA in Gatineau as a lone rat. She is estimated to be born some time in August of 2020. Robin is a sweetheart. She’s curious and very gentle. She never met a person she didn’t immediately want to climb on.
Robin and Vera immediately bonded as best friends, and Robin even helped Vera take care of some of her babies right around when they were being weaned. These three are absolutely inseparable and must be adopted together.
Poppy, being half-wild, is the most skiddish and jumpy of the 3. She may always remain this way due to her genetic back-ground. Poppy has the most confidence when she is near her mom, and given patience and time, really enjoys exploring and digging around in the blankets.
To apply to adopt this trio, please fill out an adoption application form.

This trouble-some trio were from two separate litters, but you would never guess because of how tightly bonded they now are. Of the 3, Marcel (right) was born Oct. 25, 2020, while his two adopted brothers were born just 2 days earlier.
Marcel is also half-wild, meaning his father was a wild rat, while his mother was a fully domesticated (and extremely friendly) pet rat who had been abandoned outside.
These three must be adopted together. Due to their past, they would prefer an experienced home. Porthos will also be neutered early February 2020. Their adoption fee will be $80 total for the trio.

Sisters Spud & Skadi were born some time between June and July of 2020 when a girl brought home a pair of pet rats from a store without realizing that the store had given her a boy and a girl. Several months later, the girl found herself overwhelmed with many babies from a litter of rats that she had never intended to breed.
Luckily, the girl had done a wonderful job socializing all of the rats, and despite their cramped conditions, Spud & Skadi are extremely friendly, social and loving girls. They crave attention and are perfectly happy being picked up.

Sisters Babs & Galadriel are estimated to be born around July of 2020. They are both extremely curious and friendly and don’t mind being picked up or handled. They prefer of course, to run and explore, but they’re always willing to come to the door of the cage to see if the humans are there to hand out treats or to take them out for some run-around time.
These girls can also be adopted with their sisters, Arrielle & Ursula.

Meet brothers, Yuri & Neptune. Born Aug. 22 or Aug. 23, 2020, these two are maybe technically actually cousins, but their mothers raised them together, literally taking turns feeding them. Because of this, the two are absolutely inseparable. Yes, they do have their scuffles here and there, like all brothers do, but they are always found curled around each other in the hammocks.
Both Yuri and Neptune are curious and adventurous. They’re not the biggest fans of being picked up, but at the same time, they don’t protest too much. Once they have settled into a home and gotten used to the humans around them, they become much more out-going and their true personalities start to shine.
If you have the time, love and space to offer these brothers a forever home, please fill out an adoption application form.

Meet sisters, Evita and Celeste. These girls are perfect. They love people, they love each other, they love to eat, run, play and explore. You simply will not find rats who are more fun and energetic than these two. We estimate that they were born around end of April/beginning of May 2020, making them only 5 months old.
Evita and Celeste were actually surrendered to the Rescue extremely pregnant. They had been neglected and bred by a young man who had no idea what he was doing. Poor Evita had a severe inner ear infection which had not been treated. And unfortunately, to this day, she has a head tilt that will not go away. Thankfully, she no longer has an inner ear infection, so her balance and coordination are fine. Celeste arrived with a respiratory infection, which was also treated. So other than Evita looking a little bit confused all the time with her head tilted, both these girls are happy and healthy.
In a way, this is almost a good thing, because other than Evita being just a little bit smaller and having her tilted head, these sisters are identical.
We hope to find these girls are loving home with a huge cage, a running wheel, and someone who will have time to take them out to play at least 2 hours or more every evening.
