Chip & Dale

Chip & Dale

These brothers were born from an oops litter when a couple purchased some rats from a pet store and they got a big surprise when two of the girls ended up being pregnant.

Despite arriving with mites, and being extremely skinny, after just a few weeks with our loving foster family, they are now healthy and put on some weight and muscle from being able to run and explore (as baby rats should!). Chip & Dale are both extremely friendly and curious boys, always willing to come to the human and to be picked up. We want to find them a family where they will be involved in the day-to-day activities so they can continue to grow and develop their confidence.

If you think these are the right boys for you, please fill out an Adoption Application form.

We estimate that they were born some time in July, 2022.

Drucilla & Buffy

Drucilla & Buffy

These sisters were born from an oops litter when a couple purchased some rats from a pet store and they got a big surprise when two of the girls ended up being pregnant.

Although they may appear a little bit shy at first, with just a bit of patience and love, both of them quickly come around to new humans and soon enjoy the attention, play-time outside the cage, and new toys and areas to explore. We want to find them a family where they will be involved in the day-to-day activities so they can continue to grow their confidence.

We estimate that they were born some time in July, 2022.

Iggy & Nimbus

Iggy & Nimbus

These brothers were born June 22, 2021 after their mother was left at the SPCA Gatineau, pregnant. They were adopted, but sadly were recently returned due to allergies. While these two sweethearts are on the slightly older side, they would still be wonderful companions for someone who has a bit of experience with rats, and it looking for calm, cuddly boys who will just hang out with you on the couch and give you all the kisses and licks you would ever want.

Both are extremely sweet, comfortable with being held and carried around, and so far, very good with their litter box. They are not destructive and can be trusted to go almost anywhere. Their foster home also has a small dog who doesn’t seem to bother them one bit.

If you’re looking for sweet, cuddly and calm boys to spoil for the next 6 months to a year, then these two would be the perfect gents to join your family.

Please fill out an Adoption Application form if you think Iggy & Nimbus are the right fit for your family.

Nicki & Lydia

Nicki & Lydia

Nicki & Lydia were from an oops litter when a couple purchased some rats from a pet store and they got a big surprise when two of the girls ended up being pregnant.

These two will need a lot of attention, play-time outside the cage and a variety of toys and enrichment to keep them happy, healthy and continuing to grow into their confidence. To see their adventures, please visit their foster’s Instagram @thestayandplay

If you think these are the right girls for you, please fill out an Adoption Application form. Nicki & Lydia can also be adopted with Stevie, Tully & Drew.

We estimate that they were born some time in July, 2022.

Stevie & Tully

Stevie & Tully

Meet the Fab Sisters: Stevie & Tully

While Stevie is not biologically related to Tully, the two are tightly bounded.

Stevie is definitely calmer. She was found abandoned outside, dehydrated, skin and bones and full of bot fly larvae. She nearly didn’t make it. Thankfully, with good food, warmth, lots of fluids and a safe place at her foster’s home, she eventually pulled through and is now completely healthy and happy.

Tully was from an oops litter when a couple purchased some rats from a pet store and they got a big surprise when two of the girls ended up being pregnant.

Bernadette & Shelby

Bernadette & Shelby

These sisters are estimated to be born some time in March of 2022. Despite their young lives, they’ve had a bit of a rough start. Originally purchased from a breeder in Vars who also bred rats for a dog sport called “Barn Hunt”, it’s no surprise that they arrived extremely skiddish.

Their original owner got bitten several times and despite her best efforts to socialize them, they continued to fear her and avoid her at all costs. Denise especially was so fearful she would let out a blood-curdling scream every time you tried to pick her up. Their previous owner gave up and decided to surrender them to the Rescue.

After spending several weeks with a foster, we’re happy to announce that both girls are now ready for their forever home!

Shelby (the darker grey girl) is still a little bit wary of being picked up, but once she’s out, she loves to run around and explore and come say hello. Bernadette (the lighter grey girl), can still be a little wary of strangers at first, but once she realizes you mean no harm, she will come running right up onto your arms. Both girls definitely do still startle very easily, but they quickly come back out to investigate if their trusted human is around.

We would require them to go to a home without dogs or cats, where their ideal adopter must be patient, offer them tons of attention and a fully rat-proofed area for them to run around in.

If you think you are the ones for Bernadette and Shelby, please fill out an adoption application. These girls can also be adopted with Socks & Pebble.

Joseph & Giorno

Joseph & Giorno

Brothers Joseph & Giorno are estimated to have been born sometime in December of 2021. They arrived at the Rescue extremely skinny, but their previous owner had obviously still done a wonderful job socializing them, because they are friendly, loving and love to follow their foster mom around her entire apartment!

Of the two, Giorno (black) is slightly more energetic and tends to be more of the leader, but Joseph (brown), is just as active, and the two of them get along great. They’re always cuddling, and lounging, and love to explore. So far, they’ve been great with their litter box and cautious, but willing to try all sort of new healthy foods.

If you are looking for two, sweet boys to join your family, please fill out an adoption application form.

Ralph & Norton

Ralph & Norton

Meet brothers Ralph and Norton.
They are so friendly, so brave, and so full of energy. Estimated to be born May 20th, 2021 their mother was abandoned (pregnant) at a vet clinic.

These two sweethearts were quickly adopted, but due to changes in their former adopter’s personal life, they could no longer keep the boys and so Ralph and Norton are now back at the Rescue almost exactly 1 year later. They are still very sweet, curious and just needed a little TLC. Now we just need to find these brothers a forever home where they can thrive again and make someone else incredible happy with their antics.

If you believe you can give these brothers the third chance that they need, please fill out an adoption application form.

Gizmo & Gumshoe

Gizmo & Gumshoe

Gizmo and Gumshoe are the sweetest, most friendly boys we’ve met in a long time! And despite everything they’ve been through, they managed to maintain their wonderful personalities and warm up to new people very quickly.

Gizmo and Gumshoe are brothers, with an estimated date of birth of July or August of 2021.

According to the person who surrendered them to the Rescue, she purchased them from someone on Kijiji who had in turn originally purchased them from a local breeder. When these boys arrived, they were extremely skinny, covered in lice and all of them had thin, rough fur. Gizmo especially basically had no hair left and you could see his thigh bones and back vertebrae very clearly. After just three weeks of proper parasite treatment, good food and a clean environment, both have gained significant weight and Gizmo even got all of his hair back! It’s safe to say they are now feeling wonderful and so ready to find their forever home.

Here’s what their foster family had to say about them:
Gumshoe:
Little Gumshoe is a true detective. He has to sniff and check out every hand that’s put in front of his nose and every nook and cranny of every place he’s given the chance to explore. He is cunning, brave, and even gives occasional licks. He likes being pet and held but prefers to stay in motion. If you’re holding him, expect he’ll find some way up to your shoulder or even to the lookout point on top of your head.

Gizmo:
Gizmo is a sweet little boy who likes cuddles and treats. He is shy but enjoys company once he’s warmed up to you. He can often be found following closely behind Gumshoe, letting his brother do the dangerous exploring while he takes a more cautious approach. He loves a good scratch behind the ears and is very food motivated.

If you believe you can offer Gizmo and Gumshoe their forever home please fill out an adoption application form.

*** In order to adopt, you must be an existing client of a vet clinic that sees rats or have been accepted as a new client at a clinic that sees rats ***

Meet brothers Rocky, Zuma & Skylar. Their mother was originally purchased from Pets World to feed a snake. Luckily, the snake wasn’t feeling hungry and a kind lady offered to take in the mom rat. What she didn’t know was that the mom rat was pregnant, and she gave birth to 8 babies on April 1, 2022, including these three.

All three boys are amazingly sweet and well-mannered. They love to hang out with their humans, explore their plan area and cuddle with each other.

These boys are looking for a loving forever home where they will have tons of space to grow and develop, and a loving home where the humans will consider them part of the family.

Please fill out an adoption application form to apply. Rocky, Zuma & Skylar can be adopted with their brothers Marshall & Chase.

Buddy (neutered) & Button

Buddy (neutered) & Button

*** In order to adopt, you must be an existing client of a vet clinic that sees rats or have been accepted as a new client at a clinic that sees rats ***

Half-brothers, Buddy and Button were originally from a rat breeder in Ottawa where they were going to be killed. You can read about their story here. Luckily, their former owner reached out to the Rescue and after a neuter and several weeks of socialization, Buddy & Button are now ready to find their forever home.

Button is estimated to be approximately 11 months old, while Buddy is 3 months younger. Of the two, Button is the leader, the adventurer and the super outgoing one. He’s always eager to greet new people and is completely fine with being held and handled. Funny enough, when he’s had enough, he’s usually the first to squeak in protest.

Buddy has come a long way and is now finally comfortable with being pet and handled. He still doesn’t enjoy it the same way Button does, but he’s no longer fearful and in fact will now run towards his foster mom instead of away from her during playtime.

Because of the multiple homes Buddy and Button have already been through, we really hope to find them a loving forever home with someone who has the time and the experience to give these boys the love they deserve.

Buddy & Button soaking in some love.

Linda & Dolly

Linda & Dolly

*** In order to adopt, you must be an existing client of a vet clinic that sees rats or have been accepted as a new client at a clinic that sees rats ***

This pair of adorable sisters are ready to win over your heart.

Linda & Dolly are estimated to be born late November of 2021. Of the two, Linda (black and white) is more outgoing (and some may say) a little bit bonkers, while Dolly (white) is just as friendly and sociable, but she actually stays still (sometimes). Both girls will perk up immediately when you enter a room, and they’ll follow you around no matter where you go like tiny puppies. They are literally the most perfectly adorable and well-behaved companions anyone could hope for.

If you believe you can offer these two girls a loving forever home and a second chance, please fill out an adoption application form.

Patti & Emmylou

Patti & Emmylou

*** In order to adopt, you must be an existing client of a vet clinic that sees rats or have been accepted as a new client at a clinic that sees rats ***

This adorable mother/daughter pair are ready to win over your heart.

Patti, the mom is estimated to be born in July of 2021, while her daughter, Emmylou was born in later November of 2021. Both girls are sweet, dainty and just need a bit of time to come out of their shells. Patti, the mom is especially active and adventurous and would love nothing more than a large enclosure and lots of time outside the cage to explore and climb things.

We would strongly prefer if Patti could also be adopted with her two other daughters, Linda and Dolly.

If you believe you can offer a loving home to these sweet girls who need a second chance, please fill out an adoption application form.

Miso (neutered) & Tako (neutered)

*** In order to adopt, you must be an existing client of a vet clinic that sees rats or have been accepted as a new client at a clinic that sees rats ***

Brothers Miso & Tako were surrendered to the rescue as day-old babies in March of 2021. They were quickly adopted and until recently, have been spoiled and lived a rather wonderful life. Unfortunately, Miso became hormonal aggressive and their adopters decided that they could not handle this new development and did not want to go through the neuter, so they were returned to the Rescue.

We promptly got Miso neutered, and he’s back to being a sweet, fun-loving and wonderful boy. Of the two, Miso is definitely more of a cuddler and loves to give you little licks and kisses. Tako is bigger, more active, and in terms of personality, is a little more adventurous and food motivated. Both of them love people and run up to you as soon as you call for them. They are also almost 100% with their litter box!

They are not picky at all about their veggies and will happily accept all healthy treats. Their favourites though are definitely banana, edamame and grapes.

If you are interested in these two sweet, perfect boys who need a third chance at finding their forever home, please fill out an adoption application form.

Beatrix & Nora

Beatrix & Nora

*** In order to adopt, you must be an existing client of a vet clinic that sees rats or have been accepted as a new client at a clinic that sees rats ***

Beatrix & Nora have not had an easy life so far. We estimate that they were born November of 2021 and are most likely sisters. On one of the coldest days of winter, they were found in a taped up box on the side of the road in Napanee, ON. Luckily, a kind human found them and brought them to the Rescue.

Unluckily for us, they were in that box with a male and were both pregnant. Beatrix gave birth on Feb. 11, 2022 while Pip gave birth on Feb. 3, 2022. Understandably, both of them arrived at the Rescue extremely timid and shy. Beatrix especially had a nipping problem, but this was mainly due to her strong instincts to protect her babies.

Now that all of the babies have been weaned, and Beatrix and Nora have spent close to a month with a loving foster, both of them have had a complete change in personality.

Nora especially is now completely careful and such a joy to be around. She loves to be picked up and is always begging to come out and ride around on your shoulders. You would never guess based on her behaviour that she was ever tossed out in a box!

Beatrix meanwhile has also made huge progress, and while she’s still a little bit timid around strangers, it doesn’t take her long to warm up to you and climb into your lap. Both girls are definitely ready for their forever home!

Beatrix and Nora can be adopted with their friends/sisters, Pip & Lexi.
