Originally surrendered through the SPCA Gatineau, they were immediately transferred to the Rescue due to the lack of space at the SPCA. They were part of an unplanned litter when their previous human found himself with too many rats and all of the sexes mixed up.
These boys are so sweet, so curious and full of shenanigans.
There are 6 boys in total, and although they look nearly identical upon first glance, there are actually some major differences: 4 of the 6 boys actually have wavy rex hair and curly whiskers and several of them have brown nose smudges. Their personalities also vary from the extremely friendly, to the extremely chaotic! We’d like to find them all homes as pairs or in a larger group.

Meet the extremely handsome Totoro and Jiji who are looking for a home to call their own.
These two boys are estimated to be around 1 year old, but it’s very hard to know their exact age as they were found as strays outside in a box in Montreal. They spent a few weeks at the Montreal SPCA where they were treated for parasites, then were transferred into our care where they would have more one-on-one attention and hopefully a better chance of finding a home.
Of the two, Totoro is definitely braver. He is now crawling into his foster parent’s arms on his own and is very curious about all the new sounds and smells. He is also fiercely protective of Jiji and the two are always cuddled together. Their foster has also reported some territorial/protective behaviour inside the cage which is why we prefer an experienced home.
Jiji on the other hand is a little more cautious and will need someone with patience and a gentle hand to coax him out of his shell. He’s a total sweetheart when you do get him to come out, but he’s simply not as brave or confident as Totoro. The two are tightly bonded.

Meet brothers Socrates & Ben, two of the sweetest boys ever! They were definitely well-loved and cared for by their previous human until life-changes made them too expensive to care for. They arrived to the Rescue in perfect health and used to being handled. In fact, they seem to really ENJOY being held and calm down once they get to spend some time in your sweater or your arms. It has taken them some time to get used to their new foster home, but it really only took a week to settle in. They are now zooming around in their free roam area and climbing all over things to get to their foster mom.
We were told that the boys are 9 months old, making their date of birth some time in May 2022.

Thankfully, he has been doing his best to take care care of them and to handle them every day. Both are extremely curious and friendly, but will take a bit of time to warm up to new people and things. Unfortunately, both arrived with mild respiratory infections, so they will not be available to go to their new homes until they complete 14 days of antibiotics.
Soon they will be looking for a loving forever home that will give them tons of attention, lots of space to grow into, and the care they will need to ensure they get to grow old together.

These brothers were born from an oops litter when a couple purchased some rats from a pet store and they got a big surprise when two of the girls ended up being pregnant.
Despite arriving with mites, and being extremely skinny, after just a few weeks with our loving foster family, they are now healthy and put on some weight and muscle from being able to run and explore (as baby rats should!).
Ever since Pluto’s neuter, he’s become the perfect boy! He’s friendly, comes when called, likes to give you kisses and is always so excited and happy to see you. Best of all, he’s now always cuddling his brother and bouncing with happy energy. Goofy has also completely changed now that he can finally relax around his brother. He loves to climb and explore and although he can still be a little dramatic when being suddenly touched or picked him, once he gets to know you, he also comes when called and will crawl all over you.

These brothers were born June 22, 2021 after their mother was left at the SPCA Gatineau, pregnant. They were adopted, but sadly were recently returned due to allergies. While these two sweethearts are on the slightly older side, they would still be wonderful companions for someone who has a bit of experience with rats, and it looking for calm, cuddly boys who will just hang out with you on the couch and give you all the kisses and licks you would ever want.
Both are extremely sweet, comfortable with being held and carried around, and so far, very good with their litter box. They are not destructive and can be trusted to go almost anywhere. Their foster home also has a small dog who doesn’t seem to bother them one bit.
