Update Nov. 23, 2021: Penelope has developed a small mammary tumor in her left armpit area. Her surgery is scheduled for Dec. 6, 2021
Meet sweet, calm ladies Delilah and Penelope. As you can see, the two of them are tightly bonded. We estimate that they are 1.5 years old and were surrendered to the SPCA in Gatineau with no reason stated.
Both are healthy, in good condition and definitely seem to have come from a home where they were handled or at least enjoyed some human interaction and enrichment.
Of the two, Delilah (black) is definitely the more outgoing and sociable one. She’s always waiting at the door, and is so sweet and calm, you can tell she sincerely enjoys human attention and affection.
Penelope is just a sweet, and really enjoys gentle and slow head and cheek rubs, however unlike Delilah, she’s a little more choosy about who she greets. You do need to take the time to win her over. But once you do, she’s just as sweet and affectionate.
As these two ladies are both a little old, we would love if they could be adopted into a home with other younger female rats. Or, if you have experience with female rats, and know what health issues to look out for, they would be a lovely fit for any family looking for calm, cuddly and affectionate pet rats.
